Axis 2 : Mitochondria-nucleus cross-talk

Five main aspects will be addressed:

1. mRNA sorting at the surface of mitochondria

Identification of all population of targeted mRNAs / Identification of cis-elements and trans-factors

2. RNA mitochondrial import

Deciphering RNA targeting and import mechanisms / Establishment of crystallographic structures of molecular complexes between imported RNAs and protein effectors

3. Mitochondrial targeting of proteins

Investigation of the import and processing of PPR proteins and mt-aaRS / Deciphering N-terminal sequence of imported proteins after maturation

4. Dual targeting of proteins

Determination of the multiple location of imported proteins in mitochondria and in chloropasts / Determination of the sub-organellar location of imported proteins

5. Manipulation of mitochondrial gene expression

Investigation of the mitochondrial genetic regulation and retrograde response by interfering with gene expression
